Let me share a story with you about a friend. To keep his identity safe, I’ll name him Roy. It was December of 2015. Roy was a young pup in ministry with less than 2 years under his belt. He was struggling with where God had him in that very moment. He was also struggling as a Video Director/Tech Producer in the Creative Arts Department of his growing church. He loved ministry but was starting to feel out of place. Praying for a new direction, Roy was asked to take over the Small Group Ministry. Without hesitation, Roy said yes with excitement. Shortly after the nod he felt so overwhelmed because he knew nothing about small group ministry.
Roy got the idea to search some larger churches within an hour from him. He stumbled across the website of a church whose pastor was New York Times Best-Selling Author. If you’re thinking Rick Warren you’re incorrect. After searching the site he emailed a Campus Small Group Director and was connected to the Small Group Network in no time!
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, Roy is me. That’s right!
It didn’t take long for me to feel right at home with the Small Group Network. The Regional Leader of the Atlantic Coast Region, Daniel Thomas contacted me as soon as I got connected(He has since become a great friend and mentor). Then in March of 2016 I was able to get connected to my first Small Group Network Huddle led by the rockstar Cynthia Considine. I was amazed to see people in groups ministry for years asking the exact same questions I was! While having good and encouraging conversation, it felt like family. It was a small group made just for me!

I had a year of great fun with my Central Maryland Huddle! So much fun that 12 of us traveled to Lobby 2017 together. We laughed, learned, and most importantly, lived out community. It’s a passionate group of individuals who want to grow in their relationship with Christ while learning and growing in relationship with each other.
Since then I have started the Western Maryland Huddle to see the exact same thing happen within my surrounding communities. You want to know the greatest part? None of us have it figured out! We learn together and grow together!
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17
Let me finish by asking you a few questions. Are you in a huddle? If your answer is no, I’m going to ask you the same question you ask people in your church that aren’t connected to a small group. Why? It’s important to be around other Small Group Pastors, Directors, Point Person, or Leader who want to learn more. If you have one in your area join today!
Don’t have one in your area? You’d be completely surprised how many Small Group Ministry leaders want a huddle but don’t know about the Small Group Network. Go find a Roy in your city and start one today!
